From Value To Color To Light
A strong value organization increases the impact of a painting. One way of achieving this is by observing some basic value systems found in nature. To explore these systems, set up a simple still life with two or three objects. Light it strongly from the right or left. Make three small paintings of the setup. Begin with the normal value range; then do a high-key and a low-key painting based on this.

Tip Of The Day ( Paint The Flowers)
Years ago my florals used to be a hard-edged painting, then I had to struggle how to paint the background with depth.
I would paint the flowers first then be faced with the depressing sight of a white background with no clue how to proceed.
SOUND FAMILAR?
Then slowly I solved the problem (you can rest assured any problem you might have, I have been there in your shoes
1) Using only 300lb paper for florals.
2) Soaked the paper in clean water on both sides, making sure the interior of the paper stayed wet.
3) Flooded rich dark (non-staining) colors onto the wet surface.
4) The images of the florals are then lifted during different stages of the drying process.
5) White petals are lifted first, middle value petals next, finally dark values last. By this time the paper is getting "dryish".
Remember 300lb. paper takes a long time to dry.

Simple Design - From Light T0 Dark
